No Sleep Till...New York Sweep the Lynx
For the first time in history, an eighth seed has taken down a number one seed in the WNBA playoffs.
The New York Liberty took down the Minnesota Lynx in the best-of-three first round series.
Some may say the WNBA should have a longer first round series, but Minnesota has no excuses to suffer such a defeat.
These two teams have prior history, as the Liberty beat the Lynx back in the 2024 WNBA Finals. That series came down to the wire, as it went to a game five.
Olivia Miles, who averaged nearly 20 points per game in the regular season, averaged just 8 points per game in these playoffs.
Miles is catching a lot of heat for her lackluster performance, but she should be given the benefit of the doubt due to being a rookie.
Napheesa Collier should be the main player catching heat. She’s consistently regarded as a top five player in the world, but is always getting eliminated in the postseason.
Collier’s averages also drop every postseason, but she receives very little negative coverage.
There’s a lot of chatter that she will leave this offseason to join another contender. It would be very disappointing to have those type of playoff performances and just leave when things get tough.
New York will be awaiting the winner of the Dream versus Mystics series.
