Pinstripes & Pipe Dreams: Yankees Bomb in the Playoffs Again
The Tampa Bay Rays swept the New York Yankees in the ALDS, and it was a beat down.
For a New York team that’s always top five in payroll, there’s been too many disappointments since their last World Series win in 2009.
Although they suffered major injuries from stars such as Aaron Judge, they just couldn’t hit when it mattered most.
The Yankees have gone cold at the plate in the postseason in recent years, and nothing has changed.
Manager Aaron Boone should absolutely be on the hot seat, but chances are they won’t let him go.
Boone has the obvious long term Yankees approval, ever since his miracle home run in the 2003 ALCS.
Under his leadership, New York has had many seasons of high expectations but a very low reward every time.
The Yankees failures have allowed teams such as the Rays to surpass them, and it showed in this series.
Tampa was just simply too much for New York. They shut the Yankees out in game one, and held them to just five runs the entire series.
New York will have to do something in the offseason, as this team can’t just keep being ran back.
Teams like the Philadelphia Phillies are showing that keeping the same core for years and not winning a championship equals to failure.
The Yankees are getting closer and closer to that territory, and the answer is to trade some players and fire Aaron Boone.
Players such as Jazz Chisholm, Anthony Volpe, Ryan McMahon, and Austin Wells need to get shopped for trade.
Giancarlo Stanton’s contract is also taking up immense space, which is crazy because he is never on the field.
Boone just hasn’t gotten the job done. New York needs to overlook the past relationship and realize that they won’t win a championship under his watch.
If they don’t do anything to improve the team this offseason, their World Series window is officially closed.
