The Women's and Men's Final Four is complete where there is a new champion in respective college basketball landscapes. First things first, it was has been a long time coming for the UConn Huskies where finally a national championship is coming back to Storrs, Connecticut where the Huskies dominated the defending champion South Carolina Gamecocks winning by score of 82-59 sort of like Deja vu all over again due to the margin of victory because back in February at South Carolina, UConn won by a big margin of victory as well winning by score of 87-58.
UConn just outclassed and outlasted the Gamecocks of South Carolina due to the abundance of talent that the Huskies have at their disposal. This championship was the 12th in the storied history of the program led by Head Coach Geno Auriemna who continues to increase in stature as one of the greatest coaches in the college profession aspect. Sarah Strong had 24 points on 10-15 shooting. Meanwhile Azzi Fudd had 24 points which resulted in being named the Most Outstanding Player of The Final Four. Paige Bueckers had 17 points.
Overall it was a 9 year drought since Connecticut reached the top of the summit in Women's College Basketball since 2016. The trio of Fudd, Strong and Bueckers combined for 368 points in the NCAA Tournament. The South Carolina Gamecocks were attempting a repeat but fell short of their goal attempting also to win a third national championship in a 4 year span . Salute to the women's basketball UConn Huskies.
Meanwhile the men's basketball Tournament Final Four ended with a furious comeback by the Florida Gators who made the Houston Cougars Gator Bait by completing a comeback trailing by 12 points to Houston but was able to do enough offensively and defensively to preserve a 65-63 win and a 3rd national championship since 2007. Walter Clayton Jr of Florida didn't play well in the first half but was able to get things going in the 2nd half finishing with 11 points. But his defensive stop at the end of the game on Houston's final offensive possession where he was able to get Emanuel Sharp to stop in the middle of his motion as he tried to go up for the game winning 3-point shot in the final seconds.
Will Richard of Florida contributed with 18 points overall the championship for Florida was the first hoops championship for the SEC in a decade since Kentucky won it all in 2012. For the Houston Cougars it is heartbreak hotel because they couldn't muster any lick of offense to preserve the championship yes the Cougars are great defensively but couldn't finish the deal in the end.
