Injury Pile-Up in the NBA
The 2026-27 NBA season is off to a strong start, but it’s also been a rocky start for some star players.
Anthony Edwards is expected to miss up to two months with a right knee injury. This is a huge blow to the Minnesota Timberwolves as they are about to be without their star player for some time.
Tyrese Haliburton, who just came back from a devastating torn achilles injury, injured his hamstring and will miss at least a few weeks. Indiana was one of the worst teams in the league last year without Haliburton, so they must find a way to win without him this season.
Ja Morant has suffered a hamstring injury that will sideline him for a minimum of four weeks, which is sad news because of his recent injury history.
Kawhi Leonard will miss at least three weeks due to swelling in his left knee. This is concerning due to Leonard’s history of knee injuries. Toronto traded away pieces in order to get Leonard, so we will see how they play in his absence.
Paolo Banchero suffered a high ankle sprain and will miss four to six weeks. The Orlando Magic have struggled with injuries in the last few years, and the worries continue.
Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace are both expected to miss the remainder of the season for Oklahoma City. This is a team that has championship aspirations, and these two getting hurt is a critical blow.
Other notable players with injuries include: Jaren Jackson Jr, Ben Simmons, Jalen Duren, Kristaps Porzingis, Bradley Beal, Brandon Ingram, and Jalen Suggs.
Hopefully every one of these players can recover swiftly and return to peak form. Until then, some of these teams will have to lock in and make the most of their absences.
